The Medical Industrial Complex and You

Medicine is big money. Some estimate that by 2020 prescription drug spending in the U.S. may reach $600 billion. The American Medical Association spends approximately $20 million a year lobbying politicians. The medical insurance industry collects about $1 trillion a year in premiums. With all that money running through the system, there is a lot of people working to keep things the same. As you can imagine, when businesses get that big, they have a lot of power to control the marketplace. There’s something that then happens, most of the people involved in the industry have no concept of the fact that what they do has life or death consequences… Read More

“Alternative” Medicine According To Who?

I admit it, I practice voodoo, witch doctor medicine, or as some people call it Chinese medicine. What I practiced was a medicine that had been continuously developed on billions of people for over 5,000 years. However, to people here in the United States, it was called alternative and I had to routinely weather the harshest of insults from some very intelligent doctors who were well educated. Chinese medicine, that is acupuncture and the worlds most advanced system of plant medicine, is lumped in with crystal healing, necromancy, and snake oil salesman. The question I often asked myself was, “How could a group of intelligent, educated people, schooled in critical… Read More

I’m just getting old.

I hear it too many times from too many people. They don’t know what to do to heal themselves, so they just chalk it up to getting old. The most common occurrence of said declaration is when an old injury, that never was properly healed, starts to hurt again. It doesn’t matter if your only 35, it’s bound to come out of your mouth, “I guess I’m just getting old”. The other time this tends to happen is when people are too sedentary and aren’t moving enough in general, and so, despite being 40 years old they willl say, “I guess I’m just getting old”. I’d like to emphatically declare… Read More

Do I have carpel tunnel?!

Carpel tunnel syndrome is one of those things that people hear about, and then they will call any pain in their wrist or forearm carpel tunnel syndrome. It’s kind of like someone not knowing why their body aches and they say they have fibromyalgia. Or someone who has a hyper kid and they just say the kid has ADD. In other words it’s one of those catch all phrases. I’ve come across a lot of these cases in my time helping people with their aches and pains and most of the time I found it not to be carpel tunnel syndrome, but more likely thoracic outlet syndrome. What did you… Read More

The Emotions of injury recovery

We all know that there are a lot of emotions that go along with an injury when it occurs, but what about during the healing process. What most people with injuries, and those who help them heal, do not seem to understand that unless you heal the emotional trauma from an injury, you haven’t fully healed. In fact, often times the inability to fully recover from an injury is directly related in an inability to process the emotions of the injury. Many people have the habit of avoiding emotions as a way of not experiencing them, and at times that can serve as a reasonable defense mechanism. When it comes… Read More

Why Can’t My Doctor Help Me?

I’ve heard it from too many people to count. “My doctor says I have to live with it”. They are still in pain and may not have returned to full function, and the doctor says they are stuck with their problem for the rest of their life. Your doctor should have all the answers, right?  In some cases, there is a baseline that is reached and comfort care is all that can be done. However, there is a very large number of people who can get relief from their pain, but aren’t given the path to reach their goal. What they are stuck with is searching the vast, encyclopedic knowledge… Read More
